Wimauma, Florida has more food trucks and Mexican restaurants in a mile that I have seen anywhere. They are up and down both sides of the road. I have decided over the next couple of weeks I am going to test the tacos at all of them. My first stop was right past the Welcome to Wimauma sign at the Taqueria Guanajuto. It is just past the gas station and people park there in addition to the lot where the truck is.
It didn’t take long to get my tacos, less than 10 minutes I would say and it was apparent immediately that the tortillas were being made to order. Yum! The tacos were full of white meat chicken breast in a mildly flavored sauce. It was when you added the taco sauce served with them that the magic happened. Be prepared however this sauce is more than a little spicy so if you aren’t into spice you might want to use it sparingly.
Here is the menu to order from. I don’t think you can see it real well but in the window are huge jars of fresh lemonade and another jar full of a fruit drink full of pineapple. It looked really good and one of these days I am going to stop just to try that. This place has set a pretty high standard for a taco as I test out the other places. Stay tuned.
Don Julio’s is just a little further down the street, kind of kiddy corner. The tacos were good and prepared really quickly. They also came with lots of toppings. The chicken was shredded and very tasty. It was when you added the hot sauce that things heated up.
Differences between Don Julio’s and Taqueria Guanajuto are pretty subtle. The tortillas were freshly made at Taqueria Guanajuto which I really appreciated. The chicken was white meat chunks and not shredded like at Don Julio’s. The guy at the window also spoke English at Don Julio’s so it made it easier to order. My fav I think is still the Taqueria Guanajuto.
