One day last week we took a drive over to the beach for lunch. Being new here I am still trying to figure out where things are. I had done some quick research before we left for hidden gem restaurants in Treasure Island and Maderia Beach. Shrimpy’s Bistro was our destination that day and it did not disapoint. This is a small restaurant and bar in the Treasure Beach Mall area across from the beach. They have both inside and outside dining.
The bar serves Craft Draft Beers and there are drink specials too. The day we were there they had $2.00 drink specials that included margaritas. We started off with their Shrimp Salsa and it was really good. It came with a huge bowl of hot fresh corn chips and the salsa was full of baby shrimp. It was the perfect way to start our meal and it was only $1.99! It is worth it to come for that alone with the drink specials.
We both ordered the Shrimp Po-Boy sandwiches with a different bowl of soup. I had the Shrimp Bisque and my friend had their Florida Grouper Gumbo, both were delicious. Shrimpy’s has an extensive menu so making a choice was not easy. We decided to order from their lunch menu. Their cuisine is a mix of Gulf Coast, Cajun and Mexican. Besides lunch and dinner they also serve one of the best breakfasts at the beach!
The Shrimp Po-Boy was fabulous, we had a little shrimp salsa left and since I don’t like horseradish I put it on my sandwich. The shrimp was lightly coated with batter and not greasy at all. It is easy to see why this restaurant was voted #1 for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Both soups were served really hot as it should be and the flavors outstanding. The Florida Grouper Gumbo is a New Orleans dark rue gumbo with andouille sausage, shrimp, Grouper, scallops, okra, and rice, the Shrimp Bisque is a blend of tomato and shrimp in heavy cream rue and they also have a Black Bean Soup.
