Acapulco Tropical Grocery Store
You realize you are somewhere that is going to be an awesome experience if you are a foodie before you even walk in the door. The smells in the parking lot are amazing between the bakery and the deli at the back of the store. It surely is one of the busiest parking lots in Bradenton. The staff here is friendly and helpful. As you can see below the store has a meat counter and on this day the ground beef was only $2.99 a lb. and if you were there after 4 prices drop 50 cents a lb. If I understood correctly this applies to all in the meat case but for sure the carne asadas and ground beef. Check before buying is my best advice. They have a seasoned pork carne asada which I can’t wait to try tomorrow. Tomorrow night we are having Mexican night and I really can’t wait after shopping here today with all of the goodies I brought home. I already made a Strawberry Margarita Pie with a Pretzel Crust for dessert. We’re also having Watermelon Margaritas. I’ll be posting the recipes this weekend on my blog.
Wait until you see the selection of cheeses! This is just a small portion of what is available. There is another counter as you come in the door twice as big as this one filled with authentic products. I had a hard time choosing which ones to try first. Next to that is a huge refrigerated counter with chorizo’s of all kinds. I’m telling you if you are a foodie and love Mexican food, OMG you will love this place. I think we spent more than an hour there today and I have to admit I brought home a few things I have no idea what I am going to do with it. One was a bag of Corn Meal but looks like corn kernels. I am guessing it needs to be soaked before cooking so I need to do some research and find out tomorrow. The variety of dried beans is pretty amazing also and the prices can’t be beat.
Look at all of the taco shells, tortillas and corn chips. That’s not all however because fresh tortillas both flour and corn are available at the cash register. Both times I have been at the store 2 people are back making tortillas which are sold by the pound. Love, love all the piñatas hanging up too!
Here is another area where Acapulco shines, the Deli in the back corner of the store. It is constantly busy and serves the best tacos in town! There is a large display case of already prepared food which can be ordered or lots of things that are made to order. Last time I was there I ordered a steak dinner and it was one of the best steaks I had eaten in a really long time. It was also such a large portion that I couldn’t even eat half of it. It was smoothered in grilled onions and what looked like green peppers. I made the mistake of eating a half of one and immediately regretted that. I don’t know what I was thinking, I knew I was in a Mexican deli and it was a jalapeno pepper. It took 5 minutes for the heat to go away. So take smaller bites or be prepared to have your taste buds wacked. LOL….A stack of tortillas came with it so I sliced it up at home and made tacos out of the left over which were still just as amazing. My friend ordered the tacos and loved them too, served with a slice of lime and fresh cilantro they were perfect! You can get about anything you want at this deli including whole fried fish. They also have fruit salads and refreshing fruit drinks. This place is not fancy, food comes in to go boxes but there is plenty of it and delicious. This may just be my favorite place for Mexican food ever! I’ve heard I shouldn’t wait to try that fried fish so maybe next time, it is only served at lunch but whole and fileted.
Here is the tortilla making area. The guys must of been finishing for the day as it looks like they were finishing up weighing them and wrapping for purchases. The first time I was here they were making flour tortillas and when I took a picture it surprised the gal back there who of course asked what I was doing and after I explained, gave me a fresh hot flour tortilla. So yummy and really my weakness. Right next to this area is a produce area where you can find all kinds of peppers and the produce is really fresh. Priced right too.
If you need a piñata they have them too, just look around as you walk thru the store. Nice bright colors and they don’t look like they have just been hanging around collecting dust like you sometimes see.
